Thinking About Donating Your Eggs?
Eggs are big business. The average store-bought egg costs around 20 cents; the average female reproductive egg, $200-$400. Egg donor clinics pay ladies an upward of $5,000 for 10 to 15 eggs, and for college students or ladies experiencing money troubles, a few grand can provide a godsend.
While most ladies may want to cash in on selling their eggs, clinics set rigorous guidelines for prospective candidates, and like male sperm donors, the requirements will eliminate most applicants.
Minimal Qualifications
Prior to donor clinics considering your application, ladies will need to meet the following criteria:
- Be between the ages of 18 and 32
- Remain in good mental and physical health
- Have a BMI of 19 to 29
- Non-smoker and no history of substance abuse
- Not use contraceptive implants or injections for birth control
- Have regular menstrual periods
- Have no history of genetic disorders
Procedure
After you fill out the application and meet the minimal requirements, donors will vet through your family history, administer a mental health evaluation and an intelligence test. These tests will determine your mental health, which can increase the value of your eggs. According to reports, ladies who attend Ivy-league schools yield a much higher price per egg. Why? Couples will always pay more for a gifted student.
Upon acceptance to donate their eggs, ladies will start the extraction process. Physicians will insert an ultrasound probe that will suck the follicles fluid that holds an egg. Most ladies will notice minimal pain for the procedure that lasts 20 minutes.
Complications
While the removal of eggs remains fairly new, about 25-years-old, the long-term effects are unknown. Still, most ladies who participate as egg donors may notice the following complication:
- Premature menopause
- Infertility
Common side effects
While these complications remain rare, ladies can expect to experience the following:
- Cramping
- Discomfort
- Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome, which causes short-term weight gain, fluid buildup and abdominal pain
Donating your eggs may seem like a lucrative opportunity, and while relatively safe, women do run the risk of some complications and side effects. If you see yourself as an eligible candidate, you’ll earn a nice chunk of change for your time and desired genetic gene pool.
